About Kat Ludens - Makeup Artist for Hera Beauty

Some people are lucky enough to find a job that they love. I count myself as one of them, only I turned something I love into a career.

At an early age, I was fascinated by cosmetics and skincare. Looking back, I was this crazy kid running around wearing frothy homemade egg white masks and changing Barbie's makeup with markers and nail polish. Somewhere in my 'tweens I thought of myself as a little entrepreneur, as I sold my friends crazy colored "mood" lipstick that I bought in bulk from a company I found in the back of a magazine.

When I was a teenager I worked in a health food store and would bring home Japanese Adzuki beans to grind up in the coffee bean grinder, mix with water and use as an exfoliant. Throughout high school I found myself in demand as a makeup artist for friends and family before school dances and events and devoured books and magazines about skincare and makeup. Eventually I began working as a freelance makeup artist and as a counter manager for BeneFit cosmetics.

In 2003 I finally made my love for the beauty industry official- I completed cosmetology school and received my official Esthetician license. After working in day spas/salons around town for a few years I knew that I was ready to really to bring my own style of esthetics to others and in 2006, Dragonfly Esthetics was born.

In 2008 I introduced Las Vegas to my new side project, Hera Beauty, a wedding/special events hair and makeup company that I started with my good friend and hairstylist, Whitney Reck. In order to keep up with the demand, we also brought in another hairstylist/makeup artist, Rachel Bates.

By 2009 our wedding business was going well, and our little company got a huge and exciting opportunity to become the exclusive beauty team for Stacie Frazier of Haute Shots Boudoir Photography! Since then, the four of us have had amazing experiences in the world of beauty and boudoir photography!

This year, 2011, in August, Rachel and I opened Hera Beauty Shop, a boudoir-inspired salon. You could say that beauty and boudoir have become who we are, and the adventures keep on coming!
